THE ARTIST
Bekir Smolski
Bekir Smolski is an artist working across painting, stained glass, mosaic, frescoes and sgrafitto — art forms that share a devotion to colour, light, and enduring craft. Born in Minsk, Belarus in 1966, he trained at the Minsk School of Art, the Minsk College of Art, and graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Art, Department of Monumental-Decorative Art.
His early career produced landmark public commissions: a 64 m² stained glass "Aspiration" for the foyer of the Belarusian Press House, altar compositions for St. Simon and St. Helen Catholic Church in Minsk, and an icon presented to the Pope from the Belarusian Catholic Church — now held in the Vatican.
Since 2002 Smolski has lived and worked in Vienna, Austria. He is a member of the Union of Artists of Belarus (since 1996) and the Stained Glass Association of America (since 2007), with works exhibited across Europe.
